About Us

Barkbus is the nation's premier mobile dog grooming company. We are dog-loving creatives, operators, technologists, and entrepreneurs taking a Silicon Valley startup approach to disrupt and modernize the fragmented legacy pet grooming industry. Driven by our mission to deliver joy to pets and their people, we're proud to operate across California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and Virginia. We’re the fastest-growing pet health & wellness startup in the country and would love you to join us in building the nation’s beloved pet brand.

Who We Are

We’re a collaborative, high-quality team of dog-lovers that solves problems with thoughtfulness, empathy, and speed. We have a big dream: to build a generational company that remakes the pet health & wellness industry nationally. We’re a fun, ambitious group that is working to build something new in pet care. We move with high velocity, collaborate closely, and deliver results faster than anyone in the market. We want your time at Barkbus to be the greatest time of your career. If you’re ready to build the future of pet care with high standards and speed, come on board. We need exceptional people to help us build something new in the world.

About the Role

We are seeking an Associate to join our Analytics team. You will initially partner primarily with our People and Operations teams. We have a fleet of hundreds of vans and a team of several hundred dog groomers, and we need to equip them with the data and insights they need to serve our customers as delightfully and efficiently as possible. You will play a pivotal role in Barkbus’ growth.

Your role is to help the business make data-driven decisions. This will involve working closely with stakeholders across the People and Operations teams to understand the key levers in their business and figure out the best way to track and improve performance. This is more than just providing data pulls - we are looking for someone thoughtful and creative. We expect you to become a true strategic partner to these teams by building strong working relationships and consistently asking questions to get to the heart of the issue at hand.

Examples of What You’ll Own:

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to optimize supply strategy: Partner with the People, Grooming, and Fleet teams to align hiring plans, van allocation, and local market strategies with customer demand and company goals.

  • Improve our service area management process: Use a variety of metrics including: demographic data, competitive analysis, and labor trends to craft a service area management framework. Improve the process by which we identify which geographies to launch, and help refine our existing service area boundaries to better access and serve our customers.

  • Develop and implement groomer performance measurement: Dig deep into our data to understand the nuances of all the factors that affect groomer performance and retention. Identify the best way to consolidate these metrics and provide them to our Groomer Operations Managers to help them get the most out of their teams. Build performance tracking and compensation structures that help us be the best place for dog groomers to work while providing the best possible experience for our pet parents.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with business partners to understand their data needs and architect the best way to provide them.

  • Identify the most important KPIs for each team and track performance against them as part of the org-wide OKR process.

  • Develop SQL queries and perform ad hoc data analyses.

  • Create and maintain robust dashboards and visualizations for non-technical team members to access business insights.

  • Develop and maintain robust documentation and best practices while enforcing data quality standards and governance processes.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design data assets, integrate analytics solutions, and ensure scalability and maintainability.

  • Contribute to the continuous enhancement of the Analytics function across the organization, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making and strategic insights.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 2+ years of prior experience in an analytics, business intelligence, or consulting role.

  • Experience with SQL, including CTEs, joins, and general best practices. (BigQuery is a plus)

  • Experience with Google Sheets. You can write an index match in your sleep.

  • Experience in designing, building, and maintaining data visualizations and dashboards from scratch using tools such as Tableau, Looker, or similar platforms.

  • Nice to have: experience with geographical analysis tools (QGIS/ArcGIS)

  • You are highly organized with strong attention to detail and love building and maintaining clean systems, processes, and operations.

  • Resourcefulness, an ownership mindset, and willingness to dive into the in-the-weeds work.

  • Ideally have experience in a logistics-heavy, “real world” business experiencing very fast growth. Experience working in a startup environment is a plus.

  • An independent thinker with a bias for action. You proactively identify weaknesses and opportunities and propose effective solutions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communicator, with a positive attitude and strong collaboration skills across diverse personalities and levels.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive Base Salary: $90-110K, based on experience.

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.

  • Retirement Savings Plan to support your future.

  • Pet Insurance to keep your furry friends healthy.

  • Monthly cell phone stipend to stay connected.

  • ClassPass membership to support your fitness and wellness goals.

Equal Opportunity

  • Barkbus is an equal-opportunity employer who celebrates diversity. Come as you are.

We are based in the San Francisco Bay Area. However this role can be done remotely anywhere as long as you are available to be online and attend meetings at least 9am-2pm Pacific time.
