GTM Sales Executive (Japan)

Location: Japan (Remote or Tokyo-based)

Department: Sales

Reports to: CEO

About HitPay

HitPay is a full-stack payments infrastructure platform for SMBs across Asia-Pacific. Backed by Y Combinator and leading global investors, we provide online and in-person payment solutions that unify cards, bank transfers, e-wallets, BNPL, and real-time payment methods. We’re growing fast, and Japan is one of our next focus markets.

Role Summary

We are looking for a strategic and entrepreneurial GTM Sales Executive to lead our entry into the Japanese SMB market. This role is critical in finding Product-Market Fit (PMF) in the POS and in-person payments segment for SMBs. You will be responsible for shaping our early market presence, validating use cases, acquiring initial customers, and influencing product localisation.

Responsibilities

  • Market Validation & Customer Discovery: Conduct discovery calls, merchant interviews, and market research to understand payment pain points in Japan’s POS SMB segment.

  • Sales Execution: Identify, engage, and close early customers. Execute outbound and inbound sales motions. Demonstrate HitPay’s in-person payment solutions (QR, terminal, soundbox).

  • Partnerships: Work closely with local ISVs, resellers, and payment partners to expand distribution.

  • Go-to-Market Strategy: Define early sales playbooks, pricing feedback, and merchant acquisition tactics. Work cross-functionally with Product and Engineering teams.

  • Localization Feedback: Share insights with Product to refine terminal flows, language support, integrations, and payment methods required in Japan.

  • Pipeline Ownership: Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline using CRM tools.

  • Reporting: Track key metrics — lead to close, CAC, merchant feedback — and share with leadership.

Requirements

  • 4–7 years of experience in B2B sales or GTM roles at SMB SaaS or Payments companies in Japan

  • Proven track record of launching or growing new products in a market (ideally post-Series A/B startups)

  • Strong knowledge of the Japanese SMB ecosystem — especially in sectors like food & beverage, beauty, retail, or pop-up vendors

  • Fluent in Japanese and English

  • Experience with POS hardware, payment terminals, QR payments, or integrated commerce platforms is a plus

  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communicator, with a bias toward action and experimentation

Why Join Us?

  • Shape the entry strategy and product-market fit in Japan

  • Be the face of HitPay for Japanese merchants and partners

  • Work closely with the leadership team

  • Competitive base + performance incentives + equity

  • Backed by Y Combinator, Tiger Global, HOF Capital, and GFC
